I very much enjoyed this episode! I've always loved Rare's spooky themes. I would have loved to have seen their survival horror game take (can't think of it off the top of my head and am trying to write this quickly on my break at work lol). But their dark-humor approach to death and scary things has always amused me.
Really excited for Who Wants to Be a Million-Rare! I'll get into those as soon as I get caught up!
It was really interesting hearing you guys' takes on some of the Rare games that I wouldn't have even thought to have been scary - I don't recall ever really being scared in Goldeneye, but the red mist/green mist thing has sort of made me realize that those levels were a bit on the suspenseful side. Especially the jungle when you'd suddenly hear a sentry gun going off and not knowing where it was right away.
In Banjo Kazooie, I was most scared of the tombstones outside of the entrance of MMM chasing me - it wasn't til my much later play-throughs that I realized they could be easily killed - I just ran like hell from them when I was a kid.
I think I remember being "scared" in DK64 after completing an objective and having the "GET OUT" voice yell and have the sniper target over the Kong - but it's been so long since I've played that part that I don't even remember the full context. Maybe in the desert level after you got a banana in a temple?
I also recall being scared in the Skedar levels of PD - with them sort of coming out of cloaking behind you or from a dark corridor in the underwater base/portal place.
I think Conker was definitely the most suspenseful/disturbing of their games, and I think one of the most disturbing parts was when you electrocute the squirrel in the War sequence. I also remember being terrified of the zombies after the Conkula part, and their groans making my hair stand on end
Good Halloween episode overall, definitely enjoyed your off-topic rants in this one and your dynamic of interacting with each other has continually improved over the course of the series (as one would expect!).
And good to know about the poll (whatever it may be!) - I'll try and get to that soon so I can!
(oh, and I loved the "Kremling Massacre of 20XX" - and the children giggling from the DKR logo was a nice touch at the end there lol)
