So I'm definitely very excited for Sea of Thieves, but there is always something just beyond the horizon that calls to us all.
In this case, it is the thought of what Rare will work on after Sea of Thieves.
What would make the most sense for them? What would you personally want, regardless of whether it made sense?
For me, an Xbox Live Arcade style Battletoads would be the most logical. The IP is fairly popular in the Xbox community of late, with appearances in Killer Instinct and Shovel Knight. Two of the series' games also appeared in 2015's Rare Replay. I think they should make a little 2D multi-genre beat-em-up with a small team and sell it for a lower price would just seem like a good way to approach the IP to get it even further into players' minds. That could even set them up to make a bigger-budget sequel after Sea of Thieves is out.
In a more from-the-heart approach, I'd say a new Banjo game would be my most wanted. A true 3D platformer more akin to B-K and B-T. The problem is that there is an influx of these already with Yooka-Laylee's Kickstarter success, and the bulk of the original team is working on that game anyway. It would be cool, however, to see the current Rare staff give it a crack - because there seems to be many fans of the original game working there and less of the original team that made most of the changes seen in Nuts and Bolts. It would be cool to see the "Force Awakens" approach of people who were hardcore fans of it as a kid working on the IP.
